Best way to brush curly hair?

Whats the best to brush curly hair? My hair is half way down my back and very curly. I have a problem with it knotting up on the underside. Any suggestion on how to brush it without pulling myself baldheaded? I struggle on a nightly basis after I get out of the shower. I even dread the nightly task of brushing.

First of all, DON'T ever use a brush!! It'll get caught in the tangles and cause hair breakage.. Use a wider-toothed comb. Brushes should only be used for completely detangled hair. For long hair, make sure you use enough conditioner for the hair that is below your ears onwards. That way, you keep it nice and soft...

Then use a detangling cream or anti-frizz formula 'cus even if you don't have a frizz problem it helps to detangle and smoothen your hair. (I personally L'oreal's anti-frizz serum to help wih my wavy hair.) Plus, avoid combing your hair when its wet. When you do comb it when it's dry, start from the ends in sections, and work your way up so you can detangle gently without ripping your hair out of your scalp. I do wish I had longer hair like you though; mine's only just below the shoulders... So, if you do take of your hair with a few changes to your haircare routine, you'd have a luscious mane in no time!... Hope this helps!!! :-)

I have REALLY curly hair... that I hate. It's a little bit more taimmer now that I'm old, but when I was younger, it was horrible trying to brush my long, VERY THICK hair. The only thing I found that worked was to brush it out in the shower... with a pick while I had conditioner in it. it took awhile to do, but it worked!!!
