Short haircut for thick curly hair?

I have very thick curly hair. I've never cut it shorter than shoulder length because I've found that the weight of it helps to keep it straighter and less poofy. I am sick of the upkeep and want to try something totally different. I want to get it cut short. Does anyone know any good short haircuts/styles that work for really thick curly hair (i.e. won't give me an afro)?

yeah i have to agree if you got really curly thick hair short haircuts are not good for it, and if you did if there was a way to keep it kept which there probly is youd probly need to do something to it everyday

be patient watch for and ask women w/ similar hair whose haircuts you think look good on them where they got it cut, and then go there. Once you find a stylist you like, stick w/ them.

I have curls too, and I wear it a little longer on the crown, shaped, like a wedge or shingle on the sides and back,just covering my ears. Some days I don't do anything to it when I wake up besides run my hands over it.

i have really curly hair too i really liked it when i cut it short by putting my head upside down and putting a pony tail directly in the middle of my head about an inch away front the ends of my hair and just cutting off the one inch with scissors, it gives you a ton of layers

My friend had really thick hair with tight curls. She cut it all off to about 4 inches streched out then wore it curly. It looked great and totally different from the straight look she sported forever. When she straightened it wasn't as cute, but if she did big curls that worked better.

It seems like you don't like your hair being curly. I suggest getting a "hot oil" treatment from the salon. It will straighten and soften your hair really well. A few of my friends have tried it and the results are really pleasing. It is not permanent though. After about 3 months, your hair will start to turn back to its original.

do not get a bob cut...get it thinned and get several big layers...do not get it cut too short either...use salon shampoos and conditioners or other products that are good for keeping hair sleek and thin...you might want to consider getting it chemically straightened if youre going to cut it short...i don't have very thick or very curly hair, but i guess my hair is somewhat thick and it is curly and i got mine cut about and inch or so off my shoulders and then i would wear it scrunched and curly with lottsa gel and hairspray...that made it not all frizzy and puffy-like...it was curly yet sleek and sometimes i straightened the front (my bangs) and that was cute...

main things to remember:

do not get a bob cut

get it thinned and lottsa layers

use salon products good for keeping hair sleek...

one last tip...if you have light blonde hair, then bleaching it helps get rid of puffiness..talk to your hair stylist about it...but i suggest you do not do this unless you want your hair bleached :)
