Is it unusual my son has curly hair?

I have dirty blonde wavy hair that was very blonde when I was a kid and hazel eyes. My wife has brown straight hair and brown eyes. My son got the blonde hair but it is very curly, he also has bright blue eyes he is 16 months now. Is this an unusual genitic inheritance case? Did he possibly get the curly hair from a more distant relative?

The curly hair is a recessive gene; it once belonged to an ancestor one both sides of the family, and other genes (the straight or wavy hair allele is dominant) took it's place. But for your son to have curly hair, you both need to have given him the allele, seeing as how it's recessive. Look up a "Punnett square" for more on this.

probably from your/your spouses parents.

why wonder? why don't you get a paternity test and answer all your questions, the mother does not have to know, the baby does not have to know, it's quick and it's cheap; who knows maybe he's an apple from another tree.

Does your UPS man have curly hair? ...and, more importantly, does he carry a chloroform soaked handkerchief in his pocket when he delivers packages to your house?
