I know that people get curly hair from dominant or recessive traits from their parents, but how did curly hair start in the first place? And how is it different then straight?

i have no idea how it started, but I'm going to say it was here before straight because it is dominant, then a mutation happened and someones hair was straight. and how is it different? it has to do with the shape of the hair strand. curly hair is like an oval. and straight hair is like a perfect circle.
