Help with my 9 month old's wild (curly) hair?

My 9 month old daughter has long hair. I kinda expected this, I have hair that grows and grows. But I had a little Suri Cruise thing going on when I was a baby. My hair has always been straight. She got her Dad's curly hair, and it is adorable, but most of the time, it is wild!! The only time I've ever seen the curls managed well was when her dad gave her a bath and SLATHERED lotion through her hair. She had ringlets everywhere, but it was so greasy.

Now that I've seen that ringlet cuteness, I'd really know how you style curly baby hair. I can't use adult products like gel and mousse, I assume? Are there baby hair products? Haven't seen any in stores............ Lastly, are there any websites that show how to style younger children's hair? I've never been much of a stylist, but I'm trying. Before I saw how cute curly can be, I just usually used the length as an asset and put it in pigtails or a ponytail.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

my daughter is the same way she has crazy curls and i had to deal with it until they grew out and now they hang nicely like shirley temple but a good idea is to get a water spray bottle and put gel in it like just regular gel and water it down just enough so it goes through the sprayer and scrunch the hair or style it i also use no more tangles in the morning after she made it crazy from sleeping on it and i just combed it back and as it dried it was somewhat tame but the gel thing seemed to work for us but i really had to experiment with the water gel ratios but when you get it right it is worth it to tame the craziness but if you wait it out it will get better we are just getting bangs now on my daughter and they are just laying down instead of curling all around so good luck

please dont put gel in your daughter hair, it is full of artificial ingredients that can be very drying and damaging to your little ones hair...

seriously, check out www.curls.biz

the products are all natural and will not damage her beautiful curls... Report It

adult mouse if you keep it out of her eyes %26amp; mouth or there is a baby oil gel that would work as long as you did not use too much

You can use gel or mousse as long as she doesn't eat it before it dries. Pigtails, etc. is fine, too. Take her to a place like Kid Snips and they can either cut her hair or help you style it. It's kid-centered and they'll know what's safe for your baby.

Gel, gel, gel after a bath. Just use a wide toothed comb and brush through her wet hair then gel. It will be tame, curly and cute.

I use Suave Detangler on my 3 year old son's curls. They sell a kid's version - it has an octopus on the bottle and comes in a reasonably inoffensive apple scent. It's about $2 at a drugstore.

What you can do is use AUSSIE DEEEP CONDITIONER in her hair, and leave it in for 3-5 minutes..[as it says] it will make it very soft and manageable. :] Sorry, i don't have a website. But you can just put it in pigtails or a ponytail as usual. Also you can leave it down.. [verry cute] Good luck!

my daughter also has super curly hair...1/4 inch ringlets and they are just beautiful...but do require a lot of work to maintain and the right products and technique...

since she was about your daughters age i have been using products from...

www.curls.biz

and they are fantastic...and i can tell you that people are constantly telling me how beautiful my daughters hair is and where did i get the products...

the Curly Q's line are specially made for children, especially multi-racial little girls...

as far as styles, then you can learn to cornrow or you can twist her locks, if they are curly enough they will stay by themselves...

check out the website and if you decide to order, please email me so i can give my details for a reference, also if you would like to see a picture of my daughters curls with the products...she is three now, with a head full of curls...

I'm sure you can find something at Sally's or someplace else that will work to soften her curls without making it oily.

I had the same problem with my daughter's hair and I used mousse and gel. There's nothing wrong with it, just make sure you keep it out of her eyes.

I had that wild curly hair too and so does my son. I found the best thing for him was Johnson's Baby Shampoo with the detangler and then a detangling spray. I use a gel I buy at Greatclips called Kid Solutions it is made for kids and is light and not greasy.

I'd probably do it in braids. I love seeing those little girls with the poufy curly hair all braided with beads and colorful hairties. It's so cute.

But since you like the ringlet curls, I would say try to put it in little curlers and put some gentle hairspray or gel on it until it dries and take it out and comb thru it with one of those big combs for curly hair. That way the curls are pretty much under control and in place and you don't have to risk using the hot iron near her sensitive scalp. I'd just be careful that the spray or gel is safe for babies. My neighbour has twin girls with hair like that. He mixes Infusium with water and puts in in a dollar store spritz bottle. Works like a charm and they look adorable. Never greasy or oily.
