- Read the book and visit the sites below about curly hair. I did and my once horrible curly hair is now virtually frizz-free ringlets. Now I get compliments on my hair all the time! Straighten your hair- be happy for a day, learn to manage your curly hair- be happy for life!

- To style your hair using the curly-girl method you will need gel and conditioner at the minimum. Some less useful, but still nice stuff would be a blowdryer, a diffuser (reduces frizz in curly/wavy hair when used with dryer), and a microfiber hair turban (to dry wet hair while sleeping or in the morning).

-The main philosophy of the curly-girl method is to not use shampoo. This may sound unhygenic but it has actually made my hair less oily and dandruffy. Most shampoos contain some of the same chemicals found in laundry detergent (aka sulfates). They dry out curly hair. Also you shouldn't brush your curly hair dry because it damages the hair and makes it poof.

- Massaging of the scalp with conditioner to remove dirt is all that is needed. It will clean everything but super clingy silicones. Then rinse and spread conditioner on the outside layer of hair and the hair at the nape of your neck. Gently comb tangles out with your fingers or a wide toothed comb and rinse with cold/cool water.

- Do not brush/comb your hair after this point because it wil disturb the curl pattern (make sure you already have a part). It is also important to use gel on sopping wet hair and scrunch the hair with your fingers. Use a towel or paper towels to gently scrunch some of the water out. Then let your hair air dry or wait ten minutes and then use a blowdryer with a diffuser. Do not touch the hair while it is air drying or it will frizz!

- Use a moisturizing conditioner, such as Desert Essence Organics Italian Red Grape Conditioner (found at health food/organic stores). The combo of products that I use daily is Garnier Fuctis Sleek and Shine Leave In Cream and then Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Gel but there are more conditioners, gels, etc. on the websites.

- Your hair may seem worse at first, but it is just adjusting. This takes 2 to 4 weeks begin working. This is hard to do if you don't read the book, or at least visit the websites. Naturally curly hair can be beautiful! Hope this helps!

When you get out of the shower, put a leave-in conditioner in your hair. This will at least help it stay smooth and not frizzy looking. After you do this, put mousse and texturizing cream in the palm of your hand (not at the same time) and work through your hair. This will piece your hair out so it doesn't look like one huge mess, you will be able to see the individual curls.

Try using Cat Walk Curls Rock amplifier. I use it and it is great. Also conditioning your hair really well may help.

I have really thin hair so I dont have that problem, but one of my best friends has really curly hair like that. What she does is use either a anit-frizz shampoo and conditioner or a shampoo and conditioner specialized for curly hair. After your shower put in a anti-frizz mouse and kinda scrunch your hair but dont blow dry it. Let it air dry because if you blow dry it, it will look like an afro. Hope that helps!

My hair is dry and wavy but really curly. I get my hair chemically straightened. It is like combing through this thick stuff that is like a perm solution (but it is a straightener). It really helps calm my hair down. I don't have to stand there and brush while I blow dry to get it to go straight. If I use a flat iron now, it is super straight and looks great. Also, you need to use a GOOD flat iron. The cheap ones don't leave your hair as nice. The nice ones are about $125, but they are worth it!! Good luck curly!

If your hair is truely that curly, get a straightening perm. It is supposed to make straight hair straighter, but if you put it on curly hair, I suppose it would tame it down a little.

Go to a good hairdresser and they will teach you how to work it to make it look good. I am sure it still looks good now! Good Luck! %26lt;3

MY HAIR IS THE SAME WAY!

3 words for you: leave in conditioner.

try the aussie leave in conditioner- its great. it sprays on so there is no mess, and it really calms your hair. also, if you want to blowdry and straighten your hair, it is also a heat protector plus shine so your hair wont look so dry.

what i like doing before i buy new hair products is i like getting a haircut. that way, your hair looks, feels, and IS healthier.

:P

what i notice sometimes about my hair when it is all the way down and curly is that the front part really poofs out alot. so, if that is the case for you, you could wear your hair half up and half down... you know what i mean? then put some hairspray in your hair to keep the style.. not too much, maybe no more than like 10 sprays for your whole hair. that can be hard sometimes. i love hairspray!! lol

also another hairstyle i think is really cute for curly hair is using chunky headbands.

curly hair is so gorgeous, dont over-straighten it or you will regret it. i know its hard lol but if i can do it so can you. =]

Don't get a chemical straightener---I did that and it was drying and didn't get rid of all of the curl. It was still wavy and needed to be straightened with a flatiron.

Redken has a new product called Crystal Curls that works really well for making my curls defined and shiny.

When straightening, use a ceramic flatiron (better for hair) and apply a shining serum after. Good luck!

You need to get a good shampoo and conditioner that works for your hair. I use saloon products from Loreal that are for making hair straight. But these products might not be the best for your hair. I would advice you to go to a saloon and have them recommend products that will work with your hair and what you want from it.

When using a straightening iron it is important to use products that are ment to be used with hot irons. You should get products that will protect your hair from the heat, these will also help make your hair straighter and stay straight.

Do you have a good straightening iron? Some irons aren't good for your hair, maybe they become to warm so they burn your hair...

Is your hair always completely dry before you start straightening it? This is really important. If you put products in your hair shortly before straightening it, make sure to let these completly dry up in your hair before you start straightening it.

If you want to wear your hair curly there are great products for this to, that will keep your hair from becomming all frizzy and crazy. I have two sets of products, one set for wearing my hair naturally curly, and one set for when I straighten my hair. Some products are good for both, the most important thing is that you find products that work for your hair. I love Loreals saloon products, they might be a bit expencive but they are defintely worth it. But these might not be the best for you, that is something they should be able to tell you in a saloon, what products are right for you, and how you should use them to get the best result.

Hope this helps you. My hair is naturaly curly, but like you I prefer it straight. So I can relate to the problems you're having, been there - done that! lol

Good Luck! :)

1-Wash and condition your hair using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Wavy and curly hair tends to be drier than straight hair.

2-Comb hair in shower while conditioner is still in. Never brush or towel dry hair. Instead, air dry or diffuse.

3-Pour a dollop of liquid straightening serum and a smaller dollop of glossing serum into your hand and mix them together. (Tip: Vaseline works just as well as serums, pomades and gels and is at least a tenth of the cost)

4-Apply the straightening-glossing serum mixture to sections of your hair. Twist each section around your fingers, hold for a few seconds, then release. Do this all over your head.

5-Turn your head down. Dry your hair with a blow-dryer with a diffuser attachment until your hair is completely dry.

6-Spray hair lightly with an anti-frizz spray.

Try a hair protector for flat irons etc.use a sleek shine serum and alot of moisturing products. There are alot of products out there I like Sammy products a little pricey but worth it.
